The Swiss-Ukrainian project “Act for Health” aims to reduce the risk factors for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) to improve overall well-being and increase life expectancy for men and women in Ukraine. The project is implemented with the support of Switzerland through the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
PROJECT OBJECTIVE
To support the development of policies and programs that integrate primary health care, educational services and community-based support, creating a comprehensive framework for the NCDs prevention and control.
To help individuals, families, and communities to take an active role in caring for their health contributing to the long-term improvement of Ukrainians’ health.
To support the implementation of the National Action Plan on Non-Communicable Diseases to achieve global sustainable development goals in Ukraine.

TARGET AUDIENCES
The general population of Ukraine, people at risk of NCDs, those who have NCDs, and their relatives.
National and regional managers working in NCD prevention and control.
Representatives of national and regional health and social protection institutions, educational institutions, and territorial communities.
THE PROJECT CONSISTS OF FOUR COMPONENTS

Creating an enabling policy environment and strengthening professionals’ capacity in NCDs prevention and control.

Development of comprehensive and innovative approaches to NCD prevention in schools and communities.

Strengthening the capacity of primary health care to provide quality services for the prevention, control and support of people with NCDs.

Improving the quality of life for vulnerable populations living with NCDs through the development of home-based care services - the Vseturbota project.
PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION LEVELS
National level
Cooperation with the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the Center for Public Health of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, and the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine.
Creating a favorable regulatory environment for the prevention and control of NCDs.
Development of information campaigns to change the behavior of the population.
Regional level
The project works in seven target regions: Lviv, Rivne, Poltava, Dnipropetrovs'k, Kherson*, Khmelnytsky and Cherkasy regions.
Communities level
The project plans to support 32 communities in seven target oblasts.

*Since March 2022, Kherson region has not participated in project activities due to the occupation of the region by Russian troops. The project will begin work in Kherson region as soon as the security situation in the region improves.
