Healthy walks through historical sites: The experience of the Pokrovsk community

Pokrovsk community is located in a region renowned for its Cossack heritage, so participants in the route had the opportunity not only to improve their health, but also to learn more about their native land. At the end of the trip, participants enjoyed a shared lunch and exchanged their emotions and impressions. It is also important that the promotion of sports in the community is greatly influenced by the village council employees, who themselves are involved in Nordic walking, tennis, and chess.

As part of the «Act for Health» project, the Living Modern Library - Library Country Charitable Foundation donated Nordic walking poles to the community's rural library, which came in handy during the trip. In addition, the Pokrovsk village council initiated cooperation with the First Ukrainian School of Health-Promoting Nordic Walking in 2010 and purchased additional poles at the expense of the local budget. The Pokrovsk community, like many other communities in Ukraine, faces the challenges of war. They are located in a high-risk combat zone, and after the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant, they were left without water.

Like many other communities in Ukraine, the Pokrovske community is facing the challenges of war. Located in an area of high-intensity fighting, the community was left without water after the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant was blown up.

But despite all the challenges, the community strives to continue developing a culture of health.

After resolving urgent issues, they plan to continue participating in the «Act for Health» mini-grantprogram and aim to equip a mental health room. This will allow community residents and internally displaced persons to access mental health services.
