A project for the prevention and early detection of diabetes is currently being actively implemented in the Sniatyn community in the Ivano-Frankivsk oblast. Andriy Fedusiv, deputy director for medicalservices at the Sniatyn outpatient clinic, was inspired by the «Diabetes Hunters» campaign and drewattention to the fact that in his community:
- people know little about diabetes and its prevalence;
- medical workers lack modern methods of prevention and early detection of diabetes, as well as motivation to actively offer people screenings.
Therefore, in the project:
- An endocrinologist and family doctor teach medical workers how to detect diabetes in its early stages, how to manage the disease properly, and modern screening protocols.
- At the project's expense, the clinic purchased 2,000 test strips to determine blood sugar levels and actively screens community residents.
- They educate people about the characteristics of the development, detection, and living with diabetes through community social networks.
- They also plan to hold an open «Health Fair» in Sniatyn so that as many people as possible can check their blood sugar levels.
The project is implemented with the support of the Embassy of Switzerland in Ukraine, provided through the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. Mentoring support is provided by the One Health agency. The regional partner of the project is the charitable organization «100 Percent Life Ivano-Frankivsk».
